PROJECT My Son, Christopher | CLIENT ALS Double Play | SERVICES Creative
Each year, approximately 1,000 people in Canada are diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. There is no cure and few treatment options are available. ALS Double Play was created to connect people and loved ones living with ALS; raising awareness and connecting communities to support the search for a cure.
SenovvA Canada was asked to create a video to illustrate the motivation behind ALS Double Play’s mission. We focused our narrative on Alicia Chu, the organization’s president, and her connection to the disease through her son, Christopher.
We were able to capture this film before Christopher’s passing from his longtime struggle with ALS. In the video, Alicia reflects on raising Christopher, prior to his diagnosis; his adventurous spirit as a child; the artistic talent he developed as a young man; the warmth and passion he had for his friends and family.
By fully realizing the multifaceted person Christopher had grown to become, we begin to understand the human held captive, within his own body, by ALS. Through his mom’s eyes we begin to understand the internal toil that comes with taking care of your son as if he were a child again after watching him grow into a man with hopes, dreams and passions. Through Alicia’s eyes, we were able to reveal to the audience the impact of ALS in its rawest form.
