Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Sebastian Rodriguez is the recipient of Humber River Hospital’s 2019 Doctor of Philanthropy Award.
Dr. Rodriguez’s innovative work has improved patients’ surgical recovery, allowing patients to walk again just hours after the procedure instead of days or weeks. As North America’s first fully digital hospital, Humber River is committed to providing the best and most innovative care for patients. But they cannot do this without the support of the community. Fundraising events by the hospital’s Foundation help raise money and draw awareness of how donations fuel the hospital’s innovative doctors and highlight their profound impact on patients.
Our challenge was to produce a film that would inspire donations.
Everyone loves a good story, with relatable narratives and strong emotional moments. They forge a deeper connection with audiences than other forms of content. It is even more powerful when audiences get to witness moments firsthand. Given this, it was clear to us we had to focus our story on the journey of one of Dr. Rodriguez’s patients. We followed this patient from the operating room through to post-op, witnessing them walk down a flight of stairs on their own just three hours after surgery, and then again a week later when they’re almost fully recovered. We were able to show audiences the impact their donations have on funding life-changing innovations at Humber River Hospital.
We are pleased to say both the film and the event were a big success with over a million dollars raised for the hospital.
